Dr. Daniel L. Hafendorfer, MD, AAFP, ACPE
Founder and President Emeritus, CARE Professional Liability Association, LLC and current President, CARE Risk Retention Group, Inc.
Dr. Hafendorfer co-founded CARE Professional Liability Association, LLC in October 2003. He received his undergraduate degree and his medical degree from the University of Louisville. Dr. Hafendorfer practiced family medicine for over 30 years and was board certified by the American Academy of Family Medicine.
He began his insurance career as a medical advisor, with a particular interest in risk management. Dr. Hafendorfer has also served as a medical expert in the evaluation of medical liability claims.
Dr. Hafendorfer has served his community as a school board President, a charitable foundation President, a university housing corporation President, as Associate Professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine as well as being active in the Boy Scouts and Little League baseball. He has authored a book about genealogy and has lectured for various pharmaceutical companies both in the U.S. and internationally.
Dr. Robert G. Pope, MD, ABIM, CMCE
Co-Founder of CARE Professional Liability Association, LLC and current Chairman of the Board, CARE Risk Retention Group, Inc.
Dr. Pope co-founded CARE Professional Liability Association, LLC in October 2003. Dr. Pope is an undergraduate of the University of Kentucky and holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Louisville. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He began his career in medicine in 1978 as a general internist and was in private practice for 10 years.
Dr. Pope is a seasoned medical professional with extensive health care experience. He has held a number of executive management positions with health benefit companies and managed health care organizations such as United Health Group, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kentucky and the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He recently retired as the Chief Medical Officer, Senior Products, for Humana with national responsibilities including strategic direction of the clinical programs, enhancement of clinical improvements and member guidance, and medical cost management for its Medicare enrollees.
Dr. Pope has served as Chairman of the Louisville Wellness Forum, President of the Georgia Managed Care Association, board member of the Georgia Healthcare Leadership Council. board member of the University of Louisville Department of Family Practice & Geriatrics Advisory Board, and a Fellow of the Executive Leadership Program, American Association of Health Plans.
Gregory Cook, CPCU, MBA, CPA, ARM
President and CEO, CARE Professional Liability Association, LLC
Prior to taking on the lead role in the CARE group of companies, Mr. Cook spent over ten years in the formation and management of captive insurance companies, first with Aon in the Bermuda captive industry, and more recently as Vice President of Risk Services, LLC. There he was responsible for oversight of their Vermont office, which manages captive clients domiciled in a variety of on-shore locations.
Mr. Cook has worked with a diversified group of single parent captives, admitted carriers, risk retention groups and segregated cell facilities domiciled throughout the United States, in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. His client base was predominantly in health care and long-term care. Responsibilities to these clients included application for licensure preparation, underwriting, claims management, reinsurance intermediary, quarterly and annual financial statement preparation, NAIC filings and regulatory compliance filings. Mr. Cook has also served as an officer and director on several insurance company boards.
Mr. Cook is a Chartered Accountant (CA), a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), has completed the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation, completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA), completed the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and is a Chartered Financial Analysis (CFA) candidate.
Teresa Tross (formerly Ragland)
VP, Director of Underwriting
Ms. Tross has been with CPLA/CARE since the company’s inception in 2004. Initially serving in a dual role as company controller and underwriter, she was instrumental in the development and implementation of the company’s underwriting process. Ms. Tross also worked closely with CARE’s reinsurer and was promoted to Vice President of Operations in 2007. Through her training, personal skills and ability to communicate with the company’s agent and broker network, CARE promoted her to the role of Vice President, Director of Underwriting.
Currently, Ms. Tross focuses exclusively on underwriting, reviewing all quotes, endorsements and policies, while overseeing reinsurer compliance and maintaining the CPLA/CARE relationship with the company’s producer network.
